Bury Archives are responsible for managing, caring for and providing access to the Bury Borough’s historic archives, photographic and local studies collections. Our services are managed by Bury Council and we are part of Bury Libraries + Archives. The Archives Service is based in Bury Museum.
Bury Archives Online was developed by us, thanks to funding from The Heritage Lottery Fund, to increase access to our WW1 project collection as well as various other collections, including historic photographs, archival records and secondary sources held by local studies.
You can find more information about the Archives & Local Studies services on our website at: www.bury.gov.uk/archives
Bury Archives Online contains a vast amount of our photographic archive but many of these photographs are not identified. We will be working hard to ensure that each and every photograph in our collection is identified but if you have any further information on any image within our archive please contact us.
There are many parts of our extensive archive that are not digitised but over time we hope to add more and more collections to this website. Part of our role is to collect new images for the photographic collections and new images are always welcome. If you would like to donate or loan a photograph for copying, please contact us.
Any archive items that are not available to view online can be viewed in our Archive search room. Please contact us to make an appointment.
