The Bury Local History Society Journals
The Bury Local History Society has been in existence for over 25 years and during that period has organised annual programmes of speakers etc. and has published books and
pamphlets dealing with various aspects of Bury’s history. The earlier volumes of the late Fred Campbell’s personal reminiscences were published by the Society as was that most successful book “The Forgotten Valley” by Terry Ashworth and the late Vernon Sandiford. This well researched story of the industrial history of the Cheesden Valley is still available in bookshops and libraries.
The members of the Society have, between them, a wide and deep knowledge of the history and development of the Bury district and it is felt that this information should be
published in order to provide material for future researchers and all those interested in local history. The Society hopes that a journal will be a useful vehicle for the recording and dissemination of that knowledge.
