In November 2014 Bury Archives received £60,800 for The Heritage Lottery Fund for a project titled “Bury Remembers the First World War”. This project focused on extracting the wealth of information held within the five local newspapers that were in print at the time. This collection is a work in progress as there are lots of extracts that are yet to be indexed. Despite this we have made the full collection available online in its current format. Our dedicated team of volunteers have spent 100s of hours extracting all of this information in the hope that making it more accessible will give people a better idea of what life was like for the people of Bury, both home and oversees, during The First World War.
